Reflecting on Week 51 of 2024

Week 51 of 2024 has been a large success.

Funny that I started this project towards the end of 2024, sparked to be a little more open with my overall creative process. But I couldn’t have started at a better time. I got everything set up before the start of new year. Of new opportunity.

With that being said, Week 51 was a great start to my creative career.

Biggest Accomplishment This Week

I decided that instead of working on my main novel that I got about three chapters in that I wanted to switch directions.

What does this mean?

Writing in a digital age gives you an opportunity to do something different. To not follow the paved path that is often crowded, but trek one created by your feet. You just need to understand what you are doing to maximize your opportunities to get your writing out there.

It’s why I plan to write short stories/novellas for my main novel to flesh out main characters, do a little world building, and create some interest in what I am writing.

So my biggest accomplishment for this week is having a plan and a direction.

First, I will write a short story/novella centered around the backstory of the main character to show her main flaw and give context as to why she finds herself where she is at in the main novel. Second, once that story is complete I plan to post on relevant websites to get some feedback. At the moment, I am thinking Patreon, Substack, Tapas, Royal Road, and Medium.

Why?

Because feedback will allow me to see if I have something that interests my target audience. Then, I can tweak accordingly and drum up some attention for what I am working on. If the first short story/novella gains traction and interest, that lets me know I can continue to work on other short stories/novellas knowing there is an audience for my work.

What To Accomplish Next Week

For the last week of 2024–Week 52–I want to complete writing the first act of the first novella.

That is my main goal for next week. If I write a page a day, I think I can accomplish that. For me, the first draft is about figuring out if my outline works. I try to follow the outline as much as I can until I feel like something is not working and needs to be changed/moved.

But I have to write to figure that out.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this week was a great week.

I got some writing in and even though I didn’t really talk about it, I also practiced my graphic design skills. I’ve been posting my work every day on my various social media sites. I hope to do it for 100 days straight and write about my experience in the future!

Here is the best design for this week:

Next week, I really want to get back into developing my illustration skills, but right now, I am focused on my writing.
