Reflecting on Week 14 of 2025

Failure is the greatest teacher.
And this week I failed. Badly. No way around it.
But I’m not too mad about it because I see failure as an opportunity to learn. An opportunity to understand what went wrong and what I can do differently next time.
On writing
Second week of the 100 Days of Flash Fiction challenge I decided to take on for Week 14. And I stumbled.
I will need to start over for Week 15.
The plan is to post on Fridays instead of Saturdays, so there is more urgency to get my fiction writing done as soon as possible. I have to stick to the challenge for the next twelve weeks instead of ten.
Twelve stories to showcase my work AND practice my writing skills.
On design
The plan for Week 14 was to show the designs I created for that week.
I didn’t do that.
In all honesty, I’ve been struggling to figure out what designs to make to continue to work with my skills. I’ve been wanting to create book cover designs, but I’ve been a bit hesitant.
I need to get over that hesitancy.
Next week, I want to try my hand at book covers. I hope to be able to communicate a message through my designs. And that means creating even when I don’t know what I’m doing.
On illustration
I sketched, but I didn’t post my work for Week 14.
Out of all my creative endeavors, illustration is by far the one I’m struggling with the most. I’ve been really critical of my illustrative skills, and I dread posting the work since I don’t like it myself.
But I understand that I need to get over my fear of judgment.
I’ve always liked to draw. Dragon Ball Z was one of my favorite animes when I was a kid, and it ignited a desire to draw and design my own characters. But high school and college halted any real progress until recently.
I just need to bite the bullet and post what I managed to create in a week.
Goals for next week
- Writing: Start over on the 12 Weeks of Flash Fiction challenge and post a story every Friday.
- Design: Create at least three design pieces and post on Saturday.
- Illustration: Create at least three observational pieces and sketches, and post on Sunday.
