Creative Reflections: Issue #20

Reflecting on Week 18 of 2025

Week 18 was a little weird.

I traveled to a friend’s wedding, so I couldn’t do everything that I wanted to do this weekend. That’s not a bad thing. I needed the vacation.

So I didn’t achieve everything that I wanted to achieve.

But I’m not mad about it. Not at all. The short vacation allowed me to really think about how I want to share my art while encouraging other women to do the same.

Writing

The goal I set for Week 18 was to complete another short story piece.

However, I’m still in the planning stages.

I couldn’t think of what I wanted to write about next. A sign I needed more time to figure things out. Going to my friend’s wedding helped me finally come up with a good premise I can work with.

With that being said, I’m changing deadlines.

Instead of allowing myself a week to write a short story, I’m giving myself two weeks. I think that’s more than fair, and an upgrade from what I was doing before I decided to take this creative journey.

The goal for Week 19 is to be halfway through a short story.

Design

For design, my goal for Week 18 was to continue to hone my skills as a graphic designer.

I did that! I created three design pieces that you can see here:

However, I want to do something different for Week 19.

I need to continue to push the boundaries of my design skills. I will try to do different things beyond posters. After all, graphic design is about using visuals to communicate an idea or message.

What idea am I trying to communicate?

What is the message I want to get out there?

For Week 19, my graphic design goal is communicate ideas.

Illustration

I didn’t meet my Week 18 goal of drawing every day.

Sad. But I can learn from this mistake. I must keep to my commitments if I have any hope of achieving greatness. Not perfection but greatness.

I must make time for drawing if I want to be able to draw the images I see in my head.

Eventually, I would love to draw the characters I write about. I would love to add my own illustrations to my graphic design work. I can’t do that if I continue to neglect cultivating my drawing skills.

For Week 19, I will draw every day, either through learning how to draw or sketching observational pieces.

Conclusion

And with that, I say goodbye to Week 18.

Hello, Week 19.

Things are going to change a bit as I figure out how I want to share my work while encouraging you to also kickstart your creative journey. I’ve been reading [The 12-Week Year]() and it’s lit a fire under my ass.

I eventually hope to share my results after updating my system to using 12-week plans. Stay tuned as I work on my findings for that.

What are your creative goals for Week 19?
